Carlo Bevilacqua
Photographer, visual artist, researcher, documentary director, filmmaker, and founder partner and producer of Xtv Productions, a creative lab based in Milan, Carlo Bevilacqua taught photography at the Milan branch of the Fashion Institute of Technology of New York (FIT) / Politecnico di Milano. His work sits at the intersection of documentary photography, visual anthropology, and editorial practice, focusing on spirituality, ritual, and the identities of marginalized cultures. His visual research explores the balance between the individual and the collective, the sacred and the profane, and tradition and contemporaneity.
His work has been featured in magazines such as GEO, Ojo de Pez, China Lens, La Croix, Stern, Io Donna, and Marie Claire, and shown at numerous Italian and international photography festivals. He develops long-term projects across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, including Into The Silence, an exploration of contemporary hermits, and Utopia, a journey from Singapore to Vancouver Island through communities experimenting with alternative forms of life, spirituality, and creative expression—books that reflect his immersive approach to visual storytelling. He is also the author of Indian Stills and In Italia, with a text by architect Mario Botta.
His film work includes documentaries and audiovisual projects such as Little Red Robin Hood, a biographical documentary on Robert Wyatt featuring contributions from musicians including Brian Eno, Paul Weller, Nick Mason (drummer of Pink Floyd), and Elvis Costello; Big Sister Because of You, a documentary on the internet brothel of Paga through the work of Czech photographer Hana Jakrlova; Moira Orfei, Amore e Fiori, on Italy’s circus queen; and music videos for Italian artists including Cristina Donà, Marco Parente, and Antonella Ruggiero.
His most recent project, Queer Divine, is a long-term photographic essay exploring gender fluidity within traditional cultures and its intersections with the sacred
